Hollywood Vampires

July 18th, 2016 | Fargo ND at Scheels Arena

Although guitarist Joe Perry collapsed during a concert in New York, it seems as though the tour continues. Joe Perry is in stable position however. Unfortunate as this is, seeing Johnny Depp on stage, and as a simple musician having fun, would be pretty cool. Of course, I would love to finally see Alice Cooper would be great as well. Their rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s Manic Depression is awesome.

Weird Al

August 12th, 2016 | Moorhead, MN at Bluestem Ampitheater

I first saw Weird Al in concert eleven years ago when he was in Grand Forks, ND at the Chester Fritz Auditorium in 2005. I knew I was in for something different, however, I had no idea what a comical, clever and memorable night it would be. I would most definitely see him again!

Korn & Breaking Benjamin

September 24th, 2016| Fargo ND at Scheels Arena

with special guests: Silver Snakes.

Korn‘s had an arguably tough road in their twenty year career thus far. I will fully admit still that when Follow The Leader came out, most of the album was okay but a lot of the sudden fame confused me. Keep in mind that I was still only about seventeen years old. I had loved their first two albums and, honestly, could identify with so much. They did weather the storm with Issues and Untouchables, however the albums following and lineup changes including Brian “Head” Welch (for some time) and David Silveria‘s apparently bitter (and indefinite) departure had me losing interest. Also, to my own personal opinion only, songs such as “Twisted Transistor” and covers such as “Word Up” had me running and shaking my head.

I had heard of Head coming back, and was honestly a fan of his very dark solo album. When the first Korn album came out with his return (2014’s The Paradigm Shift came out, I was pretty impressed with the album’s opener Prey For Me” which reminds me quite a bit of a combination of hard riffs from their self-titled debut in 1994 and touches of Untouchables. In either case, with Head’s return, it seemed they got some grit back. I think it is pretty interesting as well that they are touring with Breaking Benjamin, who has also had a pretty troubled past and even broke up for “x” amount of years. Nonetheless, I think both bands are quite strong again now, which is especially awesome since both bands have struggled in such a way. Kudos.

Henry Rollins

November 20th, 2016| Fargo, ND at Sanctuary Events Center

I’ve been a fan of Henry Rollins ever since Weight came out in 1994. I know, you who remember are likely giggling and imitating “Liar”. For quite awhile, the song/album and his performance was all that I knew about Mr. Rollins. Later, I of course learned that he was the singer for the famed/pioneering punk band, Black Flag. Beyond this, he has written some of the best spoken word/unstructured writing I have ever enjoyed..such as that in Black Coffee Blues. I then grabbed The Portable Henry Rollins and was pleasantly surprised at an excellently worded auto-biography that was shocking and slightly uncomfortable in terms of how dark a person could get. These days, of course, I often pick up a Henry Rollins book or recorded spoken word to help me get through rough days. It’s a dose of reality, sometimes tough-love brutality, other times….comforting in the fact that someone else has been there too. The last time Henry Rollins was in town and doing his spoken word in Fargo, it was at the now defunct Playmaker’s House of Rock, which turned into The Hub which is also defunct. Anyway, I unfortunately missed it. This is certainly for anyone with curiosity to think, dare to challenge normal, etc. Here is a video clip from many years ago of Henry reading one of my favorites of his, “I Know You”.
